California - Facebook Messenger users will have access to sending payments in the “coming months.” As reported by WebProNews, the company announced that it will begin rolling out the feature to iOS, Android, and Desktop.

As noted in the report, users will be required to use a Mastercard or Visa from a U.S. bank. It has yet to be announced how the feature will work for international users. Messenger users and their friends will be allowed to transfer money between them without being charged additional fees.

Facebook is quoted as stating of the security of the transaction feature, “Incorporating security best practices into our payments business has always been a top priority. We use secure systems that encrypt the connection between you and Facebook as well as your card information when you ask us to store it for you. We use layers of software and hardware protection that meet the highest industry standards.”

The company further stated, “These payment systems are kept in a secured environment that is separate from other parts of the Facebook network and that receive additional monitoring and control. A team of anti-fraud specialists monitor for suspicious purchase activity to help keep accounts safe.”
